Making sense of your Home Depot receipts
On a Home Depot receipt, an item's description is cut down to a few characters. Some lines are still guessable; others become unrecognizable the moment you leave the store.

What does "XL VT BOT <A>" mean on our Home Depot receipt?
On our demo Home Depot receipt, the line "XL VT BOT <A>" is identified by ReFound as Wrigley's Excel Bottle Spearmint Sugar Free Gum 60s.

This is the most striking line on that receipt. Nothing in "XL VT BOT" suggests chewing gum: "XL" comes from Excel, "VT" from vert (French for green, the spearmint flavour) and "BOT" from the bottle format. The "<A>" marker appears as-is in the printed description.
A few weeks after the purchase, that line is unreadable. It is exactly the kind of amount people can no longer account for when they go back through a receipt.
What does "1 4" BLK <A> chithe" mean on our Home Depot receipt?

This line mixes the digit that was bought (1), the size (4"), an abbreviated colour (BLK) and leftover word fragments. The leading "1" is not a quantity — it is the house number itself. Without the identified product, that is easy to misread.
What ReFound adds on top of plain receipt reading
OCR reads "XL VT BOT <A>" and stops there. The string is accurate, but it does not say what was bought.
